#8. $8.40!

What would you consider to be a happy day? Is it a day when you ace everything, a day when everything is in your favour or a day when books are on sale and you can splurge without guilt? For me it would be the last one! Being the broke university student that I am, I love it when things are on sale! Today I got two books that I plan to squeeze in between my oddly-enough busy schedule. I would have gotten more but I’m not that insane yet to think I can read everything while I read textbooks and study too! I have this bad habit of wanting to finish a book as soon as I buy it. It’s odd.

Anyways, I got a book by Cecelia Ahern called Where Rainbows End. It’s a huge book that talks about the lives of two childhood best friends for forty years. I think it’s bigger than my History of China textbook which talks about almost a millenium of Chinese history. You can read a review of the book at writemeg.com.

The other book that I got is called The Mapmaker’s Opera by Bea Gonzalez. I have a thing for Spanish literature simply because I find them magical, mesmerizing and amusing. I remember that day when I picked up A Hundred Years of Solitude by Marquez simply because the cover was pretty and it was about a Spanish man. I know it’s bad to judge a book by its cover, but when the cover design is just pretty and makes me wish I’m capable of designing, you know the book has to be somewhat good. I also read the summary, but hey, if it’s a book by a Spanish author, with a pretty cover and talks about history, I’m sold.

I really can’t find reviews for Gonzalez’s book but I’ll let you guys know how the book is when I get to it.

So, just out of curiosity, what do you guys enjoy splurging on? Is it the occasional impulsive therapy shopping or some kind of collection shopping? Let me know~

(Also, to your right would be a video of Caro Emerald’s A Night Like This. The song never fails to make me happy, so I thought it’d be nice to share it here. Enjoy!)

#7. So I just fail.

I figured I’d still be writing 365 posts, just because I said I would! Ah, this non-writing of blog entries can be contributed to mini mental breakdowns, shitloads of stuff to read, midterms, papers, laziness and the occasional fact that I have a life.

The Winter Olympics is going in my lovely Canadian hometown (just because I have three places to consider “home” now) of Vancouver and there’s a lot of free concerts and such going on. Such as Marianas Trench. Marianas Trench. TWICE. I’ve decided to be bitter about this, but not so bitter that I’m creating voodoo dolls and wishing death. No, not quite, I’ve decided for people to be annoyed by the crowds and the rain.

I saw pictures of Vancouver, and holy crap, it’s waay more crowded than usual. It’s a bit scary yet exciting. It’s still as rainy as ever though.

I’ve also discovered that there are people who are anti-Olympics and the some Americans are bashing the Canadians and all. Interesting. I thought everyone just enjoyed the Olympics, haha, how naive.

I’m also procrastinating, yay.

Holy octopus on a stick.

I guess for now I’m going to concentrate more on how to lose weight. Honestly, at first the whole reasoning behind this is so I can go to the beach without being shamed and all. It’s totally different now.

Today, I bought a tape measure because I was curious as to how many inches my waist measures. This is normally how I base my weight because I hate stepping on scale. I figured I must be losing weight cause my legs are starting to feel smaller and all. I’ve also been able to fit into a 30 inch waist pair of jeans.

Did I lose some pounds or whatever? Nope. In fact it’s the biggest I’ve ever seen it at.

Here’s what just slapped me in the face:

A 19 year and 5 months old (female) child who is 140 pounds and is 5 feet tall has a body mass index of 27.4, which is at the 88th percentile, and would indicate that your child is at risk of becoming overweight.

Your child’s ideal body weight would be at a BMI at the 85th percentile or below, and so would be about 134 pounds.

It says that I don’t necessarily have to lose pounds, but honestly, I’ve been at the risk of becoming overweight threshold for months now. I’m honestly on all that borderlines between normal and becoming at risk. My family already has diabetes, I don’t want to acquire it at 19.

I will have to devise a plan.
